OwlHound API reference

Read your monitors and incidents, add sites and remove them from your own scripts. JSON in, JSON out, one key per tool.

Get a key

Sign in, open Account → API keys and press Create key. The full key is shown once; we store only a hash of it. Choose Read-only for dashboards and plugins (it can list but never add or delete) or Full for scripts that manage sites. Revoke a key at any time on the same page.

Send it in a header on every request: Authorization: Bearer ohk_…. The base address is https://owlhound.com/api/v1.

Endpoints

RequestWhat it does
GET /monitorsEvery site on your account with its status and uptime for 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days.
GET /monitors/<id>One site, including its last incident.
POST /monitorsAdd a site. Body: {"url": "https://example.com", "name": "My site", "kind": "uptime"}. Kind is uptime or price. Needs a full-access key.
DELETE /monitors/<id>Remove a site and its history. Needs a full-access key.
GET /incidentsRecent outages. Optional monitor_id and limit (up to 100).

Example

curl -H "Authorization: Bearer $OWLHOUND_KEY" https://owlhound.com/api/v1/monitors

The answer is a JSON object with a monitors list. Each item has id, name, url, kind, status and, for uptime checks, uptime_percent and last_incident.

Limits and errors

  • Rate limit: 60 requests per minute per key. Over that you get 429.
  • 401 the key is missing, wrong or revoked.
  • 402 your account needs an active plan or trial to add sites.
  • 403 the key is read-only, or your plan has no room for another site.
  • 404 the site does not exist on your account.

You only ever see your own account's data. Adding a site through the API follows the same rules and limits as adding it in the dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the API for alerts?

Alerts can also be pushed to you: add a webhook address in your dashboard and we post a JSON message for every outage and recovery. See the alert channels help page.

Is there a Zapier app?

Not yet. Zapier can already receive our webhook messages, and its webhook step can call the API with your key.

How do I rotate a key?

Create a new key, update your script, then revoke the old one. Both work until you revoke the old key.
