Broken link monitoring

Find broken links before your visitors do

Pages get moved, products get removed and partner sites go offline. OwlHound re-checks the links on your monitored pages every week and tells you which ones lead nowhere.

Why dead links matter

A link to a missing page is a dead end for a visitor and a small trust problem for the page it sits on. Search engines also follow links, and large numbers of broken ones are a sign of a neglected site. The fix is usually trivial — but only if you know where the broken links are.

What OwlHound checks

  • The links on pages you monitor. Each week we read the page, collect its links and test them.
  • A broken link has to fail twice. We re-test every failure before listing it, so a momentary hiccup isn't reported.
  • Clear causes. You see the link and what went wrong — a 404, a timeout or a connection error.
  • Listed in your dashboard and weekly report. Broken links appear on the site's detail page and in the Monday report.

Scope

This is a weekly check of the links found on the pages you add, not a full-site crawler. For most small sites — where the homepage and a few key pages carry most of the links — that catches the problems that matter. Marketplaces that block automated requests are skipped to avoid false alarms.

Frequently asked questions

How often are links checked?

Once a week for each monitored page.

Do you crawl my whole site?

No. We test the links on the pages you add, which is enough to catch most problems on small sites.

Why was a working link reported as broken?

Some sites block automated requests. We re-test each failure before reporting it, and skip known marketplaces that block checkers, but a very strict firewall can still cause a false report.
