Account email and password (hashed), optional display name, the public URLs you ask us to monitor, alert preferences (email, optional webhook), for Free accounts, domain-verification tokens and the result of checking your DNS, homepage or well-known file for them, the first page you visited and the campaign tags in its link (for example the name of an email campaign or utm_source=linkedin), unless your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, billing status from Polar, support tickets you open, and basic server logs (IP, user agent, timestamp) for security.
We do not ask for hosting, CMS, Google, or payment-provider passwords (Search Console access, if you choose it, uses Google’s own sign-in). Monitoring uses public HTTP(S) checks only.
To run your monitors, send alerts, operate billing, and communicate about the service. We do not sell customer monitoring data. Reliability and security logs are used to keep the service running and investigate abuse — not to train AI models.
If you choose to connect Google Search Console, you sign in on Google’s own page and grant OwlHound read-only access (the webmasters.readonly scope). We never see your Google password.
OwlHound’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
You do not need an account to use the free website audit or the free tools (the Google index checker, the Knowledge Graph checker and the competitor-page check). When you run one, we fetch the public address you type in the way a visitor’s browser would, and, for the audit, up to ten public pages linked from it. We identify ourselves as OwlHound and, for those extra pages, follow the site’s robots.txt. For the domain-expiry result of the audit we send the domain name to public domain-registration lookup services (rdap.org and the domain registry’s own).
We do not save the address you enter, the page content or the result in our database, and these tools do not need or set a cookie. Two things are kept: a simple count of audits (the time and the score only, never the address), and the routine server access logs described under Retention, where the address of an audit or checker request can appear because it is part of the web address requested. The tools are rate-limited per visitor to prevent abuse.
While new accounts are paused, you can leave your email address on the signup page. We first send one email with a link to confirm the address is yours; only confirmed addresses stay on the list, and an address that is not confirmed within a week is deleted. After that we use it for one message, to tell you when OwlHound opens, and for nothing else. We do not share it, and we delete the list once that message is sent or when you ask us to (write to [email protected]). Giving your address is optional and does not create an account.
We set two cookies. oh_session keeps you signed in: it is strictly necessary, HttpOnly and expires after a few weeks or when you sign out. We also set oh_land on your first visit: the first page you opened and the campaign tags in its link (for example utm_source=linkedin), so we know which pages and posts bring new customers. It holds nothing else, is never shared, expires after 30 days, and is copied to your account if you sign up. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we don’t set it, and we delete one set earlier. Our pages also keep a campaign tag (for example the name of an email campaign you arrived from) in your browser’s sessionStorage, which disappears when you close the tab. If you arrive through a friend’s referral link, we keep that referral code in your browser’s localStorage for up to 60 days so we can credit the person who referred you when you sign up. Neither value leaves your browser except as a field when you sign up. We use no advertising cookies and no third-party analytics, and nothing we set follows you to other sites. Our network provider (Cloudflare) may set a short-lived security cookie to tell visitors from bots. If we ever add advertising or third-party analytics cookies we will ask first and list them here.
You can delete your account yourself at any time: open your dashboard, then Alert settings Delete my account. We immediately delete your user record, monitors and their history, support tickets, report settings and any connected Search Console data. We keep only an anonymised reference to the deletion and the (public) domains already used for a free trial, so that the one-free-trial-per-domain rule still works. Deleting your account does not cancel a paid subscription: cancel it in your billing portal first. Some billing records may remain with Polar as required for payments and law. You can also email [email protected] from your account address and we will do it for you.
OwlHound application servers are hosted in India (Mumbai region). Payment processing is by Polar. Email and optional webhook delivery may involve those providers’ regions.
