Advanced checks and extra monitoring

Fit a check to the site it watches: password-protected staging sites, APIs, slow pages, DNS tampering and the services your site depends on.

Where to find them

Open a site in your dashboard, then Monitor settings → Advanced checks. They apply to web (https) sites.

Accepted status codes

By default a page counts as up when it answers normally, and also when a firewall refuses us with 401, 403 or 429 (the server is clearly alive). If you list codes, such as 200-299, 401, only those count as up and everything else is an outage. Ranges like 2xx work too.

Headers and basic auth

For staging sites and APIs, add up to five request headers, one per line, such as X-Api-Key: value. For a password-protected site type Basic-Auth: username:password. After you save, the values are hidden and never shown again; saving the masked text keeps them. They are sent only to your site, and are dropped if it redirects to a different host.

Slow-response alerts

Set a limit in milliseconds, for example 3000. If the site is up but slower than that on three checks in a row, you get one email, and one more when it is back under the limit. We send at most one slow alert per site every six hours.

Page speed

Switch on Track page speed daily to get one Google PageSpeed reading (mobile) a day and an email when the score falls below your limit. The Free plan can track 3 sites, paid plans 10.

DNS change alerts

Switch on Watch DNS records and we check your domain's mail (MX), name server (NS), text (TXT), alias (CNAME) and address records every six hours. A change must still be there on a second lookup before we alert, and normal rotation of a CDN's addresses is ignored. A surprise change can mean a hijacked domain or redirected mail.

Services you depend on

Open Services you depend on in your dashboard settings and tick the services your site relies on (GitHub, Cloudflare, Shopify, Twilio, OpenAI and more). We read their public status pages and tell you when one reports a problem and when it is fixed, so you can tell their outage from yours. These do not count as sites.

Download your data

Choose Download my data in your dashboard settings for one file with your sites, outage history, daily uptime, price history, status page, team and add-ons. Passwords, keys, tokens and header values are never included.

Frequently asked questions

Can I check a site behind a login form?

Basic auth and header tokens work. Checks that fill in a login form are not available.

Why did a slow alert not arrive?

It needs three slow checks in a row, and at most one is sent every six hours per site.

Does the DNS watch cost extra?

No, it is included on every plan.
