Check DNS records and security headers

Enter a website to see its DNS records, every redirect between the address and the page, and which of the five common security headers it sends.

Free, no signup. Up to 10 checks a minute and 200 a day. We keep each answer for 10 minutes and store nothing else.

OwlHound checks your site every 5 minutes, and can also email you when its DNS records change.

What this check means

DNS records decide where your domain points: the server for the website (A, AAAA or CNAME), where email goes (MX), who runs the domain (NS) and proofs for other services (TXT). Security headers are instructions your server sends with each page that tell browsers to insist on https, limit which scripts run and stop other sites from framing yours. Long or mixed redirect chains slow visitors down.

Frequently asked questions

Which security headers matter most?

Strict-Transport-Security (HSTS) and Content-Security-Policy do the most. X-Content-Type-Options, X-Frame-Options and Referrer-Policy are quick to add and close smaller gaps.

Why do my DNS records look different elsewhere?

Records are cached for the time set in each record, so a recent change can take minutes to hours to show everywhere. We ask Cloudflare's public resolver.

How many redirects are too many?

One or two is normal, for example http to https and adding www. More than three adds delay for every visitor and wastes search engines' time.
