Google safety alerts explained
Small changes can quietly remove a page from Google. These are the changes we watch for and what to do about each.
How it works
Every six hours we read your homepage, robots.txt and sitemap. When something looks wrong we fetch it again to confirm, and only then email you. The first run only records a baseline, so you are not alerted about things that were already that way. Each alert says what changed, why it matters and how to fix it. You can silence a code per site if it is intentional.
The alerts
- Page set to noindex / noindex sent by the server. Google will drop the page. Common cause: a "discourage search engines" setting left on after a redesign. Remove the tag or the header.
- robots.txt blocks Google. A leftover
Disallow: /from a staging site stops crawling completely. - Canonical URL changed. You are telling Google another address is the main one. Restore the page's own address unless it was deliberate.
- Page title is blank or generic. Search results will show a poor title. Restore it in your CMS or SEO plugin.
- Page now redirects elsewhere. Check recent redirect rules or a domain or hosting change.
- Sitemap stopped working or lost many pages. Make sure the sitemap loads and lists your pages.
- Product data disappeared, price missing or invalid (stores). Google Shopping and AI shopping tools can no longer read the product. A theme change often removes it.
Tips, not alerts
The dashboard also shows suggestions: how your page may look in search results (title length, site icon, language, social preview), trust basics on the homepage (About and Contact links, a visible update date) and structured data. These are things to check, not penalties or ranking promises.
Frequently asked questions
Does this need Google Search Console?
No. These checks look at your public pages, so they work for everyone. Connecting Search Console adds traffic and indexing data.
Can I get false alarms?
Each alert is confirmed by a second fetch before we send it, which removes almost all temporary glitches.
How do I silence one?
Open the site's page in your dashboard and choose to ignore that alert for the site.
